He checked his watch for the zillionth time in the last fifteen minutes of his wait.

‛almost there, I guess’, he said to himself.

He rubbed his hands together, blew some warm air into it, and drew his thick clothes close to him. The clothes didn’t help much as the slow and cool breeze managed to chill him to the bone.

The lights around him were bright, alluring, and attractive. The strong smell from the delicious food was mouthwatering. But the only thing that stopped him from munching on those foods was his wait. The wait seemed to be ending at eternity. He exhaled air out of his mouth, only to see the warm air becoming mist in front of his face.

He enjoyed doing so. As it made him even more excited about the season he loved. It was his favorite part of the year, the winter season. The spine-chilling cold and the coolness on the face always made him feel so good.

He couldn’t stop the happiness that comes along with the winter season. Even though his favorite weather was already there but his favorite person was yet to arrive.

People around him, mostly couples, were having a nice time with their loved ones. The smile on their face portrayed their eagerness to end the year with good memories and with a good note. Keeping the bad memories at bay and bracing them for the new ones they will make together.

A smile showed up on his face on witnessing one such romantic couple. They were sitting at the corner of the street footpath. The guy had his elbows resting on his knees, with the slender arms of the girl wrapped around his arm. The girl stared at the ground and was all ears to the boy who was narrating something to her. She relaxed in his embrace and gave him all her attention. The love among them was so evidently visible. While others were enjoying the best of the street food, they were busy living some quiet, lovely, and intimate moments.

He checked his watch again. He walked back and forth periodically and looked around to get hold of the sight of the special one. With every minute passing by, the urge to see his favorite person seemed to be taking over him. He took out his phone from his pocket and checked it. Maybe he thought a message would have dropped by. But nothing much showed up. The evening was still going to happen, a memorable one.

A few moments later he heard something. His ears fell deaf to all noises except one sound. Not the usual ones but a special one. The rhythmic sound of the heels walking towards him. He was very familiar with the sound. His heart knew who was approaching him. Out of all the chaos around him, he heard them. How? Maybe it wasn’t the steps but the person.

He turned around, slowly. Slow enough to see a faint image of her walking towards him from the corner of his eyes. He turned totally towards the source of the footsteps only to find her eyes locked at him. Finally, she was here, right in front of him. She was still a few steps away from him.

He took the distance among them to look at her. His eyes gently widened to let all her beauty infuses in his eyes. The bright-colored light made it even more vivid. She took small gentle steps towards him, giving him the moments to embrace her beauty. She walked and stood in front of him dressed in a floral dress with a trench coat to keep her warm. Open hair and small cute bangs on her forehead made her look cute. And to add that sparkle to her was a golden pendant around her neck. She stood in front of him with her watery shiny eyes locked with his eyes. And with a gentle smile, a smile that was the most beautiful of all her attire. She looked like an angel. What else is needed to make him grow mad for her?

Through all this, she looked directly into his eyes. Eyes that said, ‛ I am sorry I’m late. Is it too late in the evening for this?’

She said ‛I am here.’ Followed and accompanied by a smile. This made him blush a bit.

He took a few brief moments to come out of the spell she had claimed on him. He took a deep breath to replenish the breathless period he had embracing her. Maybe for a second, his mind forgot to breathe. Maybe he was so lost in embracing her serene beauty that he forgot to function properly. He got hold of his blow-away mind.

Both of them braced themselves up for an evening that would bring them closer and fall even more in love with themselves.

They munched on the delicious street food and had a very good time together. He watched her eat and smiled like an idiot. And she stuffed more and more food inside him and made him look funny. Then she would laugh like a child and just look at his helpless face. They clicked photos together. Obviously to preserve the memories of the evening they were having.

She saw a baby walking down the alley. She couldn’t help but go near the baby and play with her. The cute baby was as cute as she was. They walked through the street food vans allowing themselves to get dripped in the aroma of all the delicious food around them. They decided to end the food course with a warm cup of tea. Cold weather, warm cup of tea, and two love birds. Can it get any better than this?

They got their hands on the teacups made up of clay. And they continued to walk on the footpath.

Maybe it was the most romantic part of the night. Both of them ached for this time for so long. The sky was brightly lit by the moon. No clouds to disrupt the silver shine. The glorious light fell delicately on the earth, giving the earth its beauty in darkness.

As they walked along the path, shadowed by the trees and yet lit by moonlight. The patches of moonlight that sneaked its way through the cover of the leaves and fell on the path made it look so divine. Pearls like embedded on a royal black carpet.

They walked keeping everything around them aside. All they just did was talk, without uttering a word. None of them spoke a word. Because they let the silences do the talk between them. Both of them knew that the moment was special. This is the moment they will remember forever. He was looking down while walking. He wanted to see her and have eye contact but he was afraid it would break the charming spell the moment had. Instead, he let a sigh out of him. The warm air yet again dissolved in the cold and formed a mist in front of his face. She looked at him from the corner of her eyes. He was unaware of his lovely stares from her. She took brief moments to see and appreciate the person he was. She kept looking at those cute little eyes and that delicate face. She was so happy to have him in her life. A tear found its way out of her eye. She couldn’t keep the happiness of having him trapped inside her anymore.

She came a bit closer to him and wrapped her hand around his arm and tangled her fingers with his. He gently turned towards her only to find her looking at him already, right into his eyes. It took him time to find out that a tear has found its way out. He stopped walking and turned towards her. She hung her head low. He slowly lifted it and saw her teary eyes. She smiled looking at him. And the eyes that conveyed nothing but immense love she had in her heart for him.

He knew that this was the moment he waited for so long in his life. To be looked at with so much love. What else does a man need other than that?

He slowly moved towards her and looked into her eyes.

‛I love you’

He didn’t say it. But he meant every bit of it.

He slowly brought her closer and kissed her forehead. The love she felt was so overwhelming. She relaxed in his embrace and felt safe and loved.
